This extremely vibrant artwork is based on the tile-matching puzzle video game called “Tetris” which was created in 1984 by Alexey Pajitnov. In Tetris, players complete lines by moving different shaped pieces, called Tetrominoes, which descend onto the playing field. The completed lines disappear and grant the players points, and the player can proceed to fill the vacated spaces. The game ends when the playing field is filled. The longer the player can delay this outcome, the higher their score will be. Some say that Tetris helps in developing thinking and learning skills in the majority of players.
The Artist’s interpretation of this immensely popular puzzle game includes varied colorful game pieces that fall into place to form a heart over the strongly contrasting intergalactic space background, which is why this work of art is appropriately titled LOVE U TO PIECES.
