Lighthouse Keepers had to light the tower's lamp every night and make sure that the lamp stayed lit until the sun rose the next day.
There have been many legendary lady light keepers throughout time. In fact, American women have tended lighthouses since colonial times. Hannah Thomas became the United States' first woman lighthouse keeper in 1776 after taking over the duties of her husband, John, during his service in the Revolutionary War.
